Health Care QQI – Grainne, Midleton (programme participant)
Grainne started the Healthcare QQI course in December 2017. She had no previous experience with Secad but was referred by a friend, ‘’At first I was daunted at the thought of going back to study and the fact that I have been out of the workforce for quite a few years. It was a big decision for me to make.’’
On reaching the class from the very first day, Grainne found comfort knowing she wasn’t alone – ‘’everybody was friendly and were in the same boat as me – we are all just a group of women that have a love for caring and would like to get back into the workforce. ‘’
‘’This course has helped me personally to improve my confidence and re-evaluate my life. Now I have found a focus and purpose, and the fact that there are others are trying with me has made the journey much more achievable.‘’
‘’There are tough challenges ahead of me but the group support and feedback, has made it possible for me. There is great support from the tutors and everyone is there to see you succeed. We even have a Facebook page that we can chat between ourselves in case there are any issues that are bothering us about assignments -it’s not a test but a journey to bigger and better things.’’
Grainne urges, ‘’people to stop holding themselves back and definitely make the call if an opportunity like this knocks at their door – anything is possible you must just believe and have faith that there are people and course out there to suit your needs.’’
‘’Thank you to all those involved in making this course happen and to thank the great bunch of women that are willing and wishing the best for each other – I believe it is a fresh start for me and grateful that I have had this chance. It all begins from just one phone call’’.
